How to Clean Silver Jewelry with Baking Soda

Over time, sterling silver will tarnish.  Here's a quick and easy way to get it sparkling again, without the use of harsh chemicals- all you need is baking soda and water!

Before polishing: (see the brown tarnish?)

After polishing:  bright, shiny and like new again!

All you need is some baking soda and water.

Place the jewelry to be cleaned in the palm of your hand:

Then sprinkle on some baking soda:

Add a few drops of water, just enough to make a paste:

Gently rub the jewelry with your fingers:  (try not to overlap the pieces so you don't scratch the surfaces, you may want to clean one piece at a time)

Rinse with water and blot dry with a towel:

That's it!  Can you see the difference?  It should look shiny and new!  If it doesn't, you may need to clean it another time.

So far I have used baking soda on my jewelry that included freshwater pearls, turquoise, sapphire, diamond, garnet, and Swarovski crystals, without any problems.  However, I'm not saying that it is definitely safe for all of those stones, but I just haven't noticed any problems with mine.
